Job Description: As a Teacher of the Visually Impaired, you will play a vital role in providing specialized educational support to students with visual impairments, ensuring they have equal access to quality education. You will collaborate with students, parents, and school staff to develop tailored learning plans that address the unique needs and abilities of each student all within a virtual platform!
Responsibilities:
- Assessing students' visual needs and developing Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
- Creating and implementing innovative teaching strategies and learning materials
- Providing instruction in Braille, orientation and mobility skills, and assistive technology
- Collaborating with classroom teachers and specialists to ensure inclusive education practices
- Conducting assessments and progress evaluations to track students' achievements
- Advocating for students' educational rights and promoting awareness of visual impairment challenges
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Special Education or related field
- Certification in Visual Impairment Education (TVI certification)
- Proficiency in Braille and assistive technologies
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Empathy, patience, and dedication to supporting students with visual impairments
- Experience in developing IEPs and individualized teaching plans is preferred but not required
