We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Virtual Elementary School Teacher of the Deaf to join our dynamic team. Our mission is to provide high-quality education and support to students who are deaf or hard of hearing, ensuring they thrive academically and personally.
Position Overview: As a Virtual Elementary School Teacher of the Deaf, you will be responsible for delivering engaging and effective instruction to deaf and hard-of-hearing students in a virtual classroom setting. You will collaborate with students, families, and educational staff to create a supportive learning environment tailored to the unique needs of each student.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and deliver individualized and group lessons for elementary students who are deaf or hard of hearing, utilizing appropriate instructional methods and technology.
- Create and implement lesson plans that align with state and national educational standards, incorporating adaptive strategies and tools as needed.
- Utilize virtual teaching platforms effectively to engage students, facilitate communication, and monitor progress.
- Foster a positive and inclusive virtual classroom environment, encouraging active participation and addressing any behavioral or learning challenges.
- Collaborate with families, speech-language pathologists, and other specialists to support student learning and development.
- Monitor and assess student progress, providing feedback and adjustments to instruction as necessary.
- Participate in professional development opportunities and stay current with best practices in deaf education and virtual teaching.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Deaf Education, Special Education, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- Illinois State Teaching Certification in Deaf Education or equivalent certification.
- Proven experience teaching deaf or hard-of-hearing students, preferably in a virtual setting.
- Strong proficiency with virtual teaching tools and platforms.
- Excellent communication skills, including proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and/or other communication methods used with deaf and hard-of-hearing students.
- Ability to create an engaging and inclusive virtual classroom environment.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
