We are seeking a skilled and passionate Sign Language Interpreter to join our team and support K-12 students in Maine. As a fully remote position, you will have the flexibility to work from anywhere while making a meaningful impact on students' educational experiences.
Job Description: As a K-12 Sign Language Interpreter, you will provide high-quality interpreting services to students who are deaf or hard of hearing, ensuring they have full access to the curriculum and participate actively in their educational environment. Your role will involve interpreting between spoken English and American Sign Language (ASL) during virtual classes, meetings, and other school-related activities.
Key Responsibilities:

• Provide real-time interpretation for students in virtual classroom settings, including lectures, discussions, and group activities.
• Translate spoken English into American Sign Language and vice versa, maintaining accuracy and clarity.
• Collaborate with teachers, school staff, and parents to address any communication needs or concerns.
• Adapt interpretation style and techniques to meet the specific needs of each student and educational setting.
• Maintain a professional demeanor and adhere to ethical guidelines and confidentiality standards.
• Participate in ongoing professional development and training as required.

Qualifications:

• Certification as a Sign Language Interpreter (e.g., RID, NIC) or equivalent experience.
• Experience interpreting for K-12 students in an educational setting is preferred.
• Strong proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and English.
• Familiarity with virtual communication tools and platforms (e.g., Zoom, Microsoft Teams).
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a remote work environment.
• Must be based in Maine and have reliable internet access.
