Overview

VocoVision is seeking a dedicated and experienced Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) Teacher to provide remote educational services to students in Illinois. This full-time, 1099 contract position offers the flexibility of working from home while making a significant impact on the lives of DHH students.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Deaf Education or related field
  • Active Illinois Deaf Education endorsement
  • Minimum of 2 years of recent experience as a DHH Teacher in a school setting
  • Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL)
  • Proficiency in various communication modalities used in deaf education
  • Experience with using Zoom and other digital platforms for remote teaching
  • In-depth understanding of deaf culture and the educational needs of DHH students
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively in a virtual environment

Responsibilities

  • Deliver specialized instruction to deaf and hard of hearing students via remote platforms
  • Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) specific to DHH students
  • Conduct assessments to evaluate students' language acquisition and academic progress
  • Work collaboratively with general education teachers, interpreters, and other educational professionals
  • Modify curriculum and create appropriate instructional materials for DHH students
  • Employ various teaching strategies and technologies to engage students in a virtual setting
  • Facilitate the language and communication development of DHH students
  • Maintain accurate records and prepare reports on students' progress
  • Stay current with best practices in deaf education and distance learning techniques
