Overview

VocoVision is seeking a dedicated and experienced Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) to provide remote educational services to students in Alabama. This full-time, 1099 contract position offers the flexibility of working from home while making a significant impact on the lives of students with visual impairments.

Requirements

Master's Degree in Visual Impairment, Special Education, or related field
Active Alabama Blind Education endorsement
Minimum of 2 years of recent experience as a TVI in a school setting
Proficiency in braille instruction and assistive technology for visually impaired students
Experience with using Zoom and other digital platforms for remote teaching
In-depth understanding of the unique educational needs of visually impaired students
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively in a virtual environment

Responsibilities

Provide specialized instruction to visually impaired students via remote platforms
Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) specific to students with visual impairments
Conduct functional vision and learning media assessments
Collaborate with general education teachers, parents, and other educational professionals
Adapt curriculum and create appropriate instructional materials in accessible formats
Teach braille, assistive technology, and other skills specific to students with visual impairments
Support the development of compensatory skills, orientation and mobility, and independent living skills
Maintain accurate records and prepare reports on students' progress
Stay current with best practices in education for visually impaired students and distance learning techniques
