Overview

VocoVision is seeking a dedicated and experienced Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) to provide remote educational services to students in Alabama. This full-time, 1099 contract position offers the flexibility of working from home while making a significant impact on the lives of students with visual impairments.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Visual Impairment, Special Education, or related field
  • Active Alabama Blind Education endorsement
  • Minimum of 2 years of recent experience as a TVI in a school setting
  • Proficiency in braille instruction and assistive technology for visually impaired students
  • Experience with using Zoom and other digital platforms for remote teaching
  • In-depth understanding of the unique educational needs of visually impaired students
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively in a virtual environment

Responsibilities

  • Provide specialized instruction to visually impaired students via remote platforms
  • Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) specific to students with visual impairments
  • Conduct functional vision and learning media assessments
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, parents, and other educational professionals
  • Adapt curriculum and create appropriate instructional materials in accessible formats
  • Teach braille, assistive technology, and other skills specific to students with visual impairments
  • Support the development of compensatory skills, orientation and mobility, and independent living skills
  • Maintain accurate records and prepare reports on students' progress
  • Stay current with best practices in education for visually impaired students and distance learning techniques
