Remote Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) South Dakota
Position Summary:
We are seeking a certified Teacher of the Visually Impaired to provide remote instructional services to K12 students with visual impairments across South Dakota school districts. This fully virtual role enables you to support students academic achievement and functional skills development from home.
Primary Responsibilities:

Provide specialized instruction and consultative support to students with visual impairments using virtual platforms

Conduct remote assessments of functional vision and learning media needs

Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) with appropriate goals
-
Teach Braille, assistive technology, orientation and mobility, and other adaptive skills as needed

Collaborate with families, educators, and related service providers

Monitor student progress and modify instruction accordingly

Participate in virtual IEP meetings and multidisciplinary team discussions

Ensure compliance with South Dakota Department of Education regulations and district policies
Qualifications:
-
Bachelors or Masters degree in Special Education or related field with TVI certification

Valid South Dakota teaching license with TVI endorsement or eligibility to obtain

Experience working with students who are visually impaired

Proficient in using virtual teaching platforms and digital instructional tools

Strong communication, organizational, and time management skills

Ability to manage a remote caseload independently
Preferred Qualifications:

Experience teaching in a virtual or remote setting

Familiarity with South Dakota special education laws and IEP compliance

Knowledge of assistive technology and adaptive learning resources
