As a Teacher of the Visually Impaired in the beautiful state of Virginia, you'll be an essential part of our commitment to providing quality education for students with visual impairments. Collaborating with students, parents, and fellow educators, you'll create and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) that empower each student to thrive.
Responsibilities:
- Assess the unique visual needs of students and develop tailored IEPs.
- Implement innovative teaching strategies and engaging materials.
- Provide instruction in Braille, orientation and mobility skills, and assistive technology.
- Foster collaboration with classroom teachers and specialists for inclusive education.
- Conduct assessments and progress evaluations to monitor and support student growth.
- Advocate for students' educational rights and raise awareness of visual impairment challenges.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Special Education or a related field.
- Certification in Visual Impairment Education (TVI certification).
- Proficiency in Braille and familiarity with assistive technologies.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patience, empathy, and a deep commitment to supporting visually impaired students.
- Experience in developing IEPs and individualized teaching plans is preferred.
