Overview
VocoVision is recruiting an experienced Teacher of the Visually Impaired to provide virtual instruction and support to students across California. This remote position offers the opportunity to work with visually impaired learners while enjoying the benefits of a flexible work-from-home arrangement.
Position Details
- Location: Fully Remote (California-based)
- Employment Type: Full-time, 1099 Contract
- Work Schedule: Flexible within school hours, including time for indirect services
Requirements
- Master's Degree in Visual Impairment, Special Education, or related field from an accredited program
- Active California Education Specialist Instruction Credential with Visual Impairments authorization
- Minimum of 2 years of recent experience as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired in educational settings
- Proficiency in delivering remote instruction and familiarity with online platforms like Zoom
- Knowledge of braille, assistive technology, and other tools for visually impaired students
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively in a virtual environment
- Cultural competence to serve California's diverse student population
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for visually impaired students
- Provide virtual specialized instruction tailored to each student's unique visual and learning needs
- Conduct functional vision and learning media assessments
- Teach braille, assistive technology use, and other skills specific to visually impaired students
- Collaborate with general education teachers, orientation and mobility specialists, and other professionals
- Maintain detailed and accurate documentation of student progress, interventions, and IEP goals
- Participate in virtual IEP Team meetings and contribute professional insights
- Adapt curriculum and teaching methods for effective online delivery
- Provide support and resources to families of visually impaired students
- Stay informed about California Department of Education requirements and advancements in visual impairment education
- Provide culturally responsive services to California's diverse visually impaired student population
- Adhere to all CA DOE guidelines and regulations for special education services
- Contribute to the implementation of California's Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework
- Participate in professional development activities to maintain certification and stay current with best practices
