Teacher of the Visually Impaired - Washington (Remote)

Overview

VocoVision is seeking a dedicated Teacher of the Visually Impaired to provide virtual instruction and support to students throughout Washington state. This remote position offers an excellent opportunity to make a significant impact on visually impaired students while enjoying a flexible work environment.

Position Details

  • Location: Fully Remote (Washington-based)
  • Contract Type: Full-time, 1099 Independent Contractor
  • Schedule: Flexible within school hours, including time for indirect services

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Visual Impairment, Special Education, or related field from an accredited program
  • Active Washington State Teaching Certificate with Visual Impairment endorsement
  • Minimum of 2 years recent experience as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired in school settings
  • Proficiency in delivering virtual instruction and familiarity with online platforms (e.g., Zoom)
  • Knowledge of braille, assistive technology, and other tools for visually impaired students
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong problem-solving and adaptability skills
  • Capacity to work independently and collaborate effectively in a virtual team environment
  • Cultural competence to serve Washington's diverse student population

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for visually impaired students
  • Provide virtual specialized instruction tailored to each student's unique visual and learning needs
  • Conduct functional vision and learning media assessments
  • Teach braille, assistive technology use, and other skills specific to visually impaired students
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, orientation and mobility specialists, and other professionals
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of student progress, interventions, and IEP goals
  • Actively participate in virtual IEP meetings and contribute to the development of educational plans
  • Adapt teaching strategies and materials to optimize effectiveness in an online environment
  • Provide support and resources to families of visually impaired students
  • Stay informed about Washington Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction requirements and advancements in visual impairment education
  • Provide culturally responsive services to Washington's diverse visually impaired student population
  • Adhere to all OSPI guidelines and regulations for special education services
  • Contribute to the implementation of Washington's Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework
  • Participate in professional development activities to maintain certification and stay current with best practices
