Virtual Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)


Location: Remote (Students based in Washington, USA)
Position Type: Full-Time Contract
Pay: $35/Hour

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct instruction and consultation to students with visual impairments in a virtual setting, ensuring individualized education plans (IEPs) are effectively implemented.
  • Assess students' visual and functional vision skills, and develop appropriate educational goals and objectives.
  • Adapt and modify curriculum materials and instructional methods to meet the unique needs of visually impaired students.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, special education teams, and related service providers to ensure students have full access to educational content.
  • Teach students how to use assistive technologies and other tools to facilitate their learning and independence.
  • Offer training and support to families, caregivers, and educators on best practices for working with visually impaired students.
  • Conduct ongoing evaluations and progress monitoring to assess student development and adjust instructional strategies as needed.
  • Provide orientation and mobility training, as applicable, to enhance students' spatial awareness and navigation skills in virtual and physical environments.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of services provided, student progress, and communication with stakeholders.
  • Stay current with advancements in visual impairment education and virtual teaching methods to continually improve instructional practices.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education for the Visually Impaired or a related field.
  • Valid Washington State certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI).
  • Experience working with students who are blind or visually impaired, preferably in a virtual or remote setting.
  • Proficiency in using assistive technology and adaptive tools for the visually impaired (e.g., screen readers, Braille displays, magnification software).
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks and priorities in a virtual environment.
  • Familiarity with IEP development and implementation, as well as special education laws and regulations.
  • Commitment to promoting inclusion and equity in education.
