Orientation & Mobility Specialist in Newark, OH
A school district in Newark, OH, is seeking an Orientation and Mobility Specialist to provide essential direct services to students with visual impairments. This contract position offers the opportunity to support 5-8 students through specialized instruction and consultation, helping them gain independence and confidence in their educational environment.
Responsibilities include:
- Delivering 2-4 hours of direct orientation and mobility services per week to assigned students
- Collaborating with educational teams to develop and write Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and Evaluation Team Reports (ETRs) as applicable
- Providing expert consultation to staff and families regarding mobility strategies and adaptive technologies
- Monitoring student progress and adjusting instructional methods accordingly
Desired qualifications and experience:
- Certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS)
- Experience working with school-age students with visual impairments
- Strong knowledge of IEP and ETR processes and documentation requirements
- Ability to provide effective consultations and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
