Virtual Occupational Therapist - MA

A virtual occupational therapy position supports a therapeutic public day special education program serving students in grades 8 through 12. The program enrolls approximately 20 students on site, with capacity for 30, including those placed out of district by sending LEAs across western Massachusetts. Student profiles include emotional and learning disabilities, ADHD, autism, anxiety, and patterns of school refusal. This trauma-informed setting emphasizes voice and choice, small classes, and strong staff support, without serving physically explosive students.

Responsibilities encompass delivering direct OT sessions over video, with a staff member present in the room alongside the student, and providing consultation to teachers and clinical staff on sensory, organizational, and executive functioning supports. The role focuses on practical, transition-oriented goals, such as organizing materials toward independence, sensory regulation connected to cooking classes, visual perceptual skills for academics, and activities of daily living including job applications and typing proficiency. Translating broadly written IEP goals into engaging, teen-appropriate activities is essential. Additional duties include progress monitoring, documentation, team meeting participation, and coordinating services with the speech-language pathologist.

Qualifications include:

• Valid Massachusetts OT license or license eligibility
• NBCOT certification
• Experience in school-based settings, preferably high school level
• Skilled in delivering occupational therapy effectively via telehealth, including camera positioning to observe fine motor work and engaging high school students remotely
• Experience working with students with emotional and behavioral needs

Tools and support provided include a HIPAA- and FERPA-compliant telehealth platform, optional touchscreen workstation at the school, a staff member present for each session, and clinical and technical support.

This part-time contract opportunity, located in Chicopee, MA, involves approximately three hours per week of virtual service, predominantly consultation, with some direct sessions.
