Virtual Occupational Therapist - MA
A therapeutic public day special education program serving grades 8 through 12 seeks a Virtual Occupational Therapist to provide telehealth services approximately 3 hours per week. The school supports roughly 20 students on site, with capacity for 30, primarily placed out of district by sending local education agencies across western Massachusetts. The student population includes those with emotional disabilities, learning disabilities, ADHD, autism, anxiety, and school refusal patterns, with an emphasis on trauma-informed care, student voice and choice, and small class sizes.
Responsibilities include delivering direct occupational therapy sessions via video conferencing, with a staff member physically present in the room. The role focuses mainly on consultation with teachers and clinical staff regarding sensory, organizational, and executive functioning supports. Key work includes transition-oriented goals such as improving material organization, assignment tracking toward 90% independence, sensory regulation linked to cooking class participation, enhancing visual perceptual skills, and supporting activities of daily living like typing and job application completion. The therapist translates broadly written IEP goals into actionable tasks that engage teenagers, including those resistant to adult suggestions. Coordination with speech-language pathologists and participation in team meetings, progress monitoring, and documentation are essential components.

- NBCOT certification
- School-based occupational therapy experience, preferably working with high school students
- Proficiency delivering OT services via teletherapy, including camera positioning for fine motor observation and engaging high school students remotely

Additional Information:

Interviews will be scheduled on Thursday, November 5 between 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. ET. Opportunities may grow as the school admits new students. Start date contingent upon credentialing completion.
Candidates meeting these criteria and interested in supporting students through virtual occupational therapy are encouraged to apply.
