Virtual Sign Language Interpreter K12 Education (Maryland)

Job Summary:
VocoVision is seeking a certified American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter to provide virtual interpreting services for K12 students in Maryland public schools. This position is essential in ensuring that deaf and hard of hearing students have equal access to instruction and full participation in academic and school-related activities in a virtual learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide real-time ASL interpretation during classroom instruction, virtual lessons, and school events

• Interpret spoken communication from teachers and peers into ASL and voice student responses as needed

• Collaborate with educators, special education staff, and school teams to support student communication needs

• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) Code of Professional Conduct

• Participate in IEP meetings to offer insights on communication access and recommended accommodations

• Utilize secure, FERPA-compliant platforms to deliver virtual interpreting services

• Complete all required documentation, including service logs and reports, according to district or agency guidelines

Qualifications:
Required:

• Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and English

• Current Maryland Educational Interpreter certification, or eligibility to obtain one

• High school diploma or GED and completion of an interpreter training program

• RID certification or equivalent (e.g., EIPA score of 3.5 or higher)

• Proficiency with virtual communication platforms such as Zoom, Google Meet, or Microsoft Teams

• Reliable high-speed internet and a professional virtual work setup

Preferred:

• Experience interpreting in K12 educational settings

• Strong understanding of child development and educational terminology

• Bachelors degree in Interpretation, Deaf Studies, or a related field

Work Environment:
This is a fully virtual position. Candidates must have a quiet, dedicated home workspace and a stable internet connection. All services will be provided through secure video conferencing platforms.
