Virtual Sign Language Interpreter K12 Education (North Dakota)

Job Summary:
VocoVision is seeking a certified American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter to provide virtual interpreting services for K12 students in North Dakota public schools. This role is vital in ensuring that deaf and hard of hearing students have equitable access to instruction and full participation in school-related activities within a virtual learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide real-time ASL interpretation during classroom instruction, virtual lessons, and school events

• Interpret spoken communication from teachers and peers into ASL, and voice student responses when needed

• Collaborate with educators, special education staff, and school teams to support student communication needs

• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) Code of Professional Conduct

• Participate in IEP meetings to provide insights on communication access and recommended accommodations

• Utilize secure, FERPA-compliant platforms for virtual service delivery

• Complete all required documentation, including service logs and reports, in accordance with school district or agency guidelines

Qualifications:
Required:

• Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and English

• Current North Dakota Educational Interpreter license, or ability to obtain one

• High school diploma or GED and completion of an interpreter training program

• RID certification or equivalent (e.g., EIPA score of 3.5 or higher)

• Proficiency with virtual communication platforms such as Zoom, Google Meet, or Microsoft Teams

• Reliable high-speed internet connection and a professional virtual work environment

Preferred:

• Experience interpreting in K12 educational settings

• Solid understanding of child development and educational terminology

• Bachelors degree in Interpretation, Deaf Studies, or a related field

Work Environment:
This is a fully virtual position. Candidates must have a dedicated, quiet home workspace and stable internet access. All interpreting services will be delivered using secure video conferencing tools.
