Virtual Sign Language Interpreter K12 Education (New York)

Job Summary:
VocoVision is seeking a certified American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter to provide virtual interpreting services for K12 students in New York public schools. This position plays a key role in ensuring that deaf and hard of hearing students have equitable access to instruction and full participation in academic and school-related activities in a virtual learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide real-time ASL interpretation during classroom instruction, virtual lessons, and school events

• Interpret spoken communication from teachers and peers into ASL, and voice student responses as needed

• Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, and school teams to support student communication needs

• Maintain confidentiality and follow the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) Code of Professional Conduct

• Participate in IEP meetings and contribute insights regarding communication access and student accommodations

• Use secure, FERPA-compliant platforms to deliver virtual interpreting services

• Complete all required documentation, including service logs and reports, in accordance with district or agency guidelines

Qualifications:
Required:

• Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and English

• Current New York Educational Interpreter certification or ability to obtain one

• High school diploma or GED and completion of an interpreter training program

• RID certification or equivalent (e.g., EIPA score of 3.5 or higher)

• Proficiency with virtual communication platforms such as Zoom, Google Meet, or Microsoft Teams

• Reliable high-speed internet and a professional virtual work setup

Preferred:

• Previous experience interpreting in K12 educational settings

• Solid understanding of child development and educational terminology

• Bachelors degree in Interpretation, Deaf Studies, or a related field

Work Environment:
This is a fully virtual position. Candidates must maintain a quiet, dedicated home workspace and have access to a stable, high-speed internet connection. All interpreting services are provided via secure video conferencing platforms.
