Job Summary:

VocoVision is seeking a certified American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter to provide remote interpreting services for K12 students in Connecticut public schools. This role plays a critical part in ensuring that deaf and hard of hearing students have equitable access to instruction and school participation in a remote learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide real-time ASL interpretation during classroom instruction, remote lessons, and school events

• Interpret spoken communication from teachers and peers into ASL and voice student responses as needed

• Collaborate with educators, special education staff, and school teams to support student communication needs

• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) Code of Professional Conduct

• Participate in IEP meetings to provide insights on communication access and accommodations

• Utilize secure, FERPA-compliant platforms for remote service delivery

• Complete required documentation, including logs and reports, in accordance with district or agency guidelines

Qualifications:

Required:

• Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and English

• Current Connecticut interpreter license/certification or eligibility to obtain one

• High school diploma or GED and completion of an interpreter training program

• RID certification or equivalent (e.g., EIPA score of 3.5 or higher)

• Proficiency with remote communication platforms such as Zoom, Google Meet, or Microsoft Teams

• Reliable high-speed internet and professional remote work setup

Preferred:

• Experience interpreting in K12 educational settings

• Strong understanding of child development and educational terminology

• Bachelors degree in Interpretation, Deaf Studies, or a related field

Work Environment:

This is a fully remote position. Candidates must have a dedicated, quiet home workspace and a stable internet connection. All services are delivered through secure video conferencing tools.
