Remote Sign Language Interpreter K12 Education

Job Summary:
VocoVision is seeking a certified American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter to provide remote interpreting services for K12 students in Pennsylvania public schools. This position plays a vital role in ensuring that students who are deaf or hard of hearing have equal access to classroom instruction and can fully participate in academic and school-related activities in a virtual setting.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide live ASL interpretation during virtual classroom instruction, school events, and online lessons

• Interpret spoken communication from teachers and peers into ASL, and voice student responses when necessary

• Work closely with teachers, special education professionals, and school teams to meet each students communication needs

• Maintain confidentiality and follow the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) Code of Professional Conduct

• Contribute to IEP meetings by providing input on communication access and student accommodations

• Use FERPA-compliant and secure virtual platforms for service delivery

• Accurately complete all required documentation, including logs and reports, as specified by school districts or agencies

Qualifications:
Required:

• Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and English

• Current Pennsylvania Educational Interpreter license, or eligibility to obtain one

• High school diploma or GED and successful completion of an interpreter training program

• RID certification or equivalent (e.g., EIPA score of 3.5 or higher)

• Familiarity with virtual communication platforms such as Zoom, Google Meet, or Microsoft Teams

• Reliable high-speed internet and a professional home-based work environment

Preferred:

• Prior experience interpreting in K12 school settings

• Strong understanding of child development and education-specific vocabulary

• Bachelors degree in Interpretation, Deaf Studies, or a related field

Work Environment:
This is a 100% remote position. Candidates must have a quiet, designated home workspace and a dependable internet connection. Interpreting services will be provided exclusively through secure video conferencing platforms.
