Remote American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter - Oregon
Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and certified Remote American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter to support students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing across a school district in Oregon. This remote position ensures full access to instruction and school-related communication, helping students participate equitably in their education. Interpreting services will be delivered via virtual platforms in classroom and educational settings.
Key Responsibilities:

Interpret spoken English into American Sign Language (ASL) and vice versa for students in real-time during virtual instruction and school-related activities.

Facilitate communication between students, teachers, support staff, and peers in accordance with each students Individualized Education Program (IEP).

Work closely with general and special education staff to ensure consistent, accessible communication for students.

Maintain strict confidentiality and comply with FERPA and Oregon state guidelines on student data privacy.

Prepare for interpreting sessions by reviewing lesson plans, instructional content, and relevant terminology.

Support the students communication needs across academic subjects and activities, and provide clarification or cultural mediation when appropriate.

Maintain accurate records of interpreting services and submit required documentation as directed.
Qualifications:
Required:

High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree or higher preferred.

Valid certification such as:
-
Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) score of 3.5 or higher (as required by Oregon TSPC)

Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID)
Proficiency in ASL and spoken English
Experience interpreting in K12 educational settings
Reliable internet connection and appropriate remote work setup (computer, webcam, headset, secure workspace)
Preferred:
Familiarity with Oregon Department of Education (ODE) standards for interpreters
Knowledge of special education law, including IDEA and Oregon-specific IEP procedures
Experience with video remote interpreting (VRI) in educational settings
Work Environment:
Fully remote, serving students in an Oregon school district
Requires a quiet and secure environment, high-speed internet, and video conferencing capabilities
Services may include regularly scheduled interpreting and/or flexible on-call assignments, depending on student needs
