Remote Sign Language Interpreter in Colorado

Position Overview:

We are seeking a qualified Sign Language Interpreter to provide remote interpreting services for students who are deaf or hard of hearing in Colorado school districts. This fully virtual role supports communication access in educational settings and helps ensure students are fully included in classroom activities.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide real-time interpretation between spoken English and American Sign Language (ASL) during virtual classes, meetings, and school events

• Support communication access for students in academic and social situations

• Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, and families to ensure appropriate accommodations are in place

• Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in accordance with interpreting ethics and FERPA

• Adapt signing to match the language needs and preferences of individual students

• Participate in virtual IEP meetings as needed

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent (Bachelors degree preferred)

• Valid national certification (e.g., RID, EIPA 3.5+ or higher)

• Meet Colorado Department of Education interpreter qualification requirements

• Experience working in K12 educational settings

• Strong receptive and expressive ASL skills

• Reliable internet connection and comfort with video conferencing platforms

• Excellent time management, communication, and organizational skills

Preferred Qualifications:

• Prior experience interpreting in virtual or remote settings

• Familiarity with educational terminology and curriculum content

• Ability to adjust interpreting style based on grade level and student needs
