Virtual Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing - FL
An itinerant Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing (DHH) is needed to deliver specialized telehealth instruction to a 6th-grade student with bilateral sensorineural hearing loss. This contract position is based in Fort Pierce, FL.
The primary focus involves providing 30 minutes of direct services weekly within an Exceptional Student Education (ESE) setting. Key instructional goals center on building the students self-advocacy skills, employing communication breakdown and repair strategies, facilitating effective use of hearing accommodations, and ensuring full access to classroom instruction.
The ideal candidate will have experience working with students who use spoken language and bilateral hearing aids, specifically Phonak devices. Familiarity with IEP implementation and telehealth delivery methods is essential for successful service provision.
Responsibilities include:
- Delivering individualized DHH services aligned with the students IEP goals
- Monitoring and supporting the effective use of hearing aids and accommodations
- Collaborating with school personnel to support the students access to the general curriculum
- Utilizing telehealth platforms to conduct engaging and effective instruction
- Documenting progress and communicating updates regarding the students development
Preferred qualifications:
- Certification as a Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing
- Experience working with students with sensorineural hearing loss
- Proficiency in telehealth service delivery
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
