Remote Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing | Florida
An opportunity is available for an itinerant Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing (DHH) to provide specialized telehealth services to a 6th-grade student with bilateral sensorineural hearing loss. This contract role is based in the Port Saint Lucie, FL area and involves working within the exceptional student education (ESE) setting.
Responsibilities include delivering 30 minutes of focused DHH instruction weekly, targeting key areas such as self-advocacy, communication breakdown and repair strategies, effective use of hearing accommodations, and ensuring full access to classroom instruction. The student utilizes Phonak hearing aids and communicates using spoken language. Services will be provided via telehealth, requiring adaptability to virtual platforms to ensure clear and consistent support.
Qualifications and experience desired for this role:
- Certification or licensure as a Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing
- Proven experience working with school-aged children with hearing loss
- Familiarity with bilateral sensorineural hearing loss and hearing aid technology, specifically Phonak devices
- Ability to implement Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals focused on communication and self-advocacy
- Strong skills in remote instruction and use of telehealth delivery methods
- Knowledge of ESE classroom environments and collaboration with educational teams
