A full-time position is available for a Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing specializing in telehealth services, serving an itinerant caseload across Norfolk, VA. The assignment runs from August 24th, 2026 through June 4th, 2027, averaging 37.5 hours per week.

Key responsibilities include providing direct instruction to students who are deaf or hard of hearing, addressing academic, communication, and functional skill goals as outlined in individualized education programs (IEPs). Collaboration with families, general education teachers, and related service providers is essential to develop, implement, and monitor IEPs. Curriculum and instructional materials will be adapted to ensure accessibility, incorporating assistive listening devices and AAC systems where appropriate.

This role requires teaching communication methods tailored to student needs, such as American Sign Language (ASL), spoken language, auditory training, or total communication. Ongoing assessment of student progress through formal and informal evaluations will guide instructional adjustments. Consulting with general education staff to support inclusion and accommodations is also a vital component.

Additional duties include supporting the development of self-advocacy, social skills, and student independence within school environments, and coordinating with audiologists, speech-language pathologists, and other specialists to ensure consistent use and maintenance of hearing technology.

Qualifications and experience sought:

  • Virginia Teacher of the Visually Impaired certification
  • Expertise in instruction and support for students who are deaf or hard of hearing
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and families
  • Proficiency with assistive technology and communication methods relevant to hearing impairments
  • Experience delivering telehealth services is advantageous
