Virtual Teacher of the Visually Impaired in SC
A contracted role is available for a Virtual Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI) providing telehealth services one hour per week. This position supports a high school female student who is wheelchair-bound with significant physical therapy (PT) and occupational therapy (OT) requirements. Although the visual impairment is less severe, specialized instructional support is essential to meet educational goals.
Responsibilities include:
- Delivering virtual instruction tailored to a student with visual impairment via telehealth technology
- Collaborating with physical and occupational therapists to ensure cohesive support addressing the student's complex needs
- Conducting assessments and developing individualized educational plans that accommodate both visual and physical challenges
- Implementing adaptive strategies to promote access to educational content and foster independence
- Monitoring student progress and adjusting teaching methods accordingly
Qualifications and desired experience:
- Certification or credentialing as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI)
- Experience providing services through telehealth platforms
- Familiarity with working with students who have multiple and severe physical disabilities
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team
- Knowledge of assistive technology and adaptive learning strategies for visual impairment
