Ashley’s Story – Speech-Language Pathologist

May 10, 2022By: VocoVision

Our team of teletherapists helps children from all over the United States reach their full potential. They have different interests, come from backgrounds different from one another, and have landed in their careers for different reasons, but their impact remains the same – they can help children reach their full potential.

Throughout the months, we’ve shared interviews with a few of our SLP therapists to learn about how and why they got started in teletherapy and the motivation behind their career choices. This week, we asked Ashley about her experience as a teletherapist with VocoVision.

How did you choose a career as an SLP?

I always knew I wanted to work with children in a clinical setting, but I wasn’t sure how exactly. Early on in college, I was introduced to speech-language pathology and instantly fell in love! It is such a unique field that provides such a vital human right that is often taken for granted: the ability to communicate.

How did you get started in teletherapy?

Graduating from my master’s program in the thick of the COVID-19 pandemic, I wanted to find a career that would remain consistent not only for the children I was working with but also for myself and my family. It provides incredible flexibility and consistency for everyone involved, with equally effective outcomes in therapy for everyone to feel successful.

What do you love the most about teletherapy?

The smiles and energy from the children you work with, even virtually! Children really do mirror the energy of their clinicians, so expressing that excitement you get from seeing their progress helps their confidence and motivation immensely.

What is your favorite part about your job?

Giving children their confidence back. It is so rewarding and exciting to watch them work through each stage of speech therapy, even the tough parts, and to see the smiles and excitement at the end.

What are some of your goals in teletherapy?

Creating more of my own materials by becoming more familiar with what is out there for teletherapists. This ever-growing realm of speech via teletherapy provides so many ideas!
